Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a 52-bed Med/Surg unit on nights, requiring at least 2 years of experience and a WV or compact RN license.
Details
- 52-bed acute care Med/Surg unit with all private rooms
- Patient population includes post-op orthopedic, general surgery, and basic neuro patients (laminectomies, discectomies, spinal fusions), as well as medical diagnoses such as COPD, pneumonia, cellulitis, and CHF
- Hemodialysis patients are managed on this unit; experience with peritoneal dialysis is highly preferred
- Patient ratio is 1:6–7 (primarily 1:7 on both day and night shifts); CNA support available with ratios of 1:10–12 per shift
- Common drips include Heparin, PCAs with MSO4, occasional Ativan gtt; no cardiac drips or continuous insulin drips
- Respiratory support includes BiPAP (intermittent), CPAP, and High Flow; RT is available in-house 24/7
- Remote telemetry monitoring is available as needed, monitored from a separate unit; RNs are not required to read strips but may do so if experienced
- IV Team handles all IV starts in-house 24/7; RNs assess IV sites only; PICC team also available
- Pharmacy is in-house 24/7 with Pyxis dispensing; hospitalist, intensivist, and residents are all in-house 24/7
- EMR: Allscripts (also referred to as Sunrise)
- 12-hour night shifts: 6:45 PM–7:15 AM
- Every-other-weekend requirement (3 weekends per 6-week schedule); nights rotate Fri/Sat
- Floating may occur to other Med/Surg or Med/Surg Oncology units; possible IMC float with Med/Surg overflow assignment only (no drips)
- Schedules are built in 6-week blocks; staff may submit up to 6 time-off requests per 6-week schedule
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Required certifications: BLS (AHA) and NIHSS
- ACLS certification is a plus
- Experience with peritoneal dialysis is highly preferred
- BSN is not required
- A copy of a valid, unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
- Any licensing disciplinary history (hits) must be disclosed
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before re-applying
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
- Orientation consists of general hospital orientation followed by 2 full shifts on the unit
- Holiday rotation coverage is required
- RN scrub uniform: navy blue top and bottom with navy scrub jacket; hoodies are not permitted
- COVID-positive or COVID-pending patients may be housed on this unit pending test results
- Work history covering the past 7 years (or from graduation, whichever is less) with no gaps greater than 30 days is required; each position should include hospital size, unit size, trauma level, and teaching facility status
- Two references are required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN); if the candidate worked a permanent position in the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility
- A skills checklist completed within the past year is required
